In Pictures: Santa Splash in Portrush sees brave volunteers raise funds for charity

UP to 100 hardy swimmers have taken part in the 2013 festive Santa Splash in Portrush for charity.

Yesterday's event had been due to take place at the Arcadia beach, but conditions were too rough, so the location was switched to the East Strand.

Decked out in bikinis, swimming trunks and Santa Claus hats and suits, the zany fundraisers braved chilly temperatures to frolic in the surf.

One woman, who watched, said: "The weather was crazy. I checked the temperature gauge in the car and it was only 1C, so well done to them."

Swimmers hope to raise awareness and funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry).

According to its Facebook page, every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy people, aged 35 and under, die of undiagnosed heart conditions.

Cry strives to prevent these tragedies and provides support to those affected by young sudden cardiac death.
