Industrial action hits water supply

Around 2,500 properties are experiencing disruption to water supplies amid on-going industrial action by NI Water staff.

Out of hours repair services are not being carried out as normal due to the continuing work-to-rule protest over proposed changes to the staff pension scheme.

Problems with supply have hit Fermanagh, Tyrone and Londonderry.

The areas impacted include Dungiven, Omagh, Kesh, Ederney, Fintona, Draperstown and Pomeroy.

A spokesman for NI Water said: "NI Water fully recognises this is a frustrating experience for our customers, and can assure them we are doing everything possible to restore water supplies as quickly as possible.

"NI Water would like to once again thank our customers for their continued patience whilst this problem is being resolved.

"Despite the fact the company has in place contingency plans to minimise disruption due to the industrial action, resources available to NI Water, out of normal working hours, remain very limited. As a result service levels have been impacted, in particular in relation to responses to emergency situations."

The industrial action has been on-going for four weeks.
