Two motorcycle riders injured in crashes during the Ulster Grand Prix remain critically ill in hospital, the Belfast Telegraph learned last night.

Steven Lynd (36) from Ballyclare and Yorkshire rider Gavin Lupton (37) were taken to the intensive care unit at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital after being seriously injured in separate incidents during the road race competition.

Belfast Health Trust confirmed last night that both remain in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Mr Lupton's wife Hannah told well-wishers that her husband was still "poorly".

"It's been a rollercoaster couple of days .

"He's still very poorly in intensive care but he is now stable enough for the op on his hip and leg to go ahead tomorrow.

"Thanks once again for everyone's continued support and concern. The staff at the hospital are amazing and the people of Belfast so friendly and kind", she said on her Facebook page.
