IRA graffiti daubed on Orange Hall treated as hate crime

An Orange Hall attack in Carryduff is the ninth reported incident so far this year.

Graffiti was daubed on the exterior wall and shutters of the building on the Mealough Road.

Lodge members discovered it while attending a meeting on Wednesday night.

An Orange Order spokesman said: "Orange halls are an easy target for such sinister activity and we would urge those moronic individuals responsible for such hate crime to desist."

Police in Lisburn say they are treating the incident as hate crime.

Sergeant McKenna said: “It is believed that sectarian graffiti was daubed on the building sometime between Monday August 21 and Thursday August 24.

"Police are treating the incident as a hate crime. Anyone with any information about is asked to contact police at Lisburn on 101 quoting reference 599 24/08/17, or if they wish to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
