Ireland circus juggler Paul Barberel jailed for Lancashire sex assaults: police appeal for information

Lancashire Constabulary is appealing for members of the public in Ireland to come forward if they have any information on a sex attacker after he was recently jailed for sexually assaulting two women in Preston.

32-year-old Paul Barberel spent some months in Ireland with a circus as a juggler around the years of 1999-2000.

During this period as he travelled around Ireland, police say he may have committed similar crimes.

Paul Barberel was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 32-year-old woman, who was unknown to him, on 28 April this year. He was arrested by officers after forensic evidence linked him to the victim.

The forensic evidence also linked him to a historical sexual assault from December 1999, when a 20-year-old woman, who was also unknown to him, was sexually assaulted.

Det Sgt Steve Ryder said: “Both incidents were particularly sinister and the victims were subjected to serious sexual assaults.

"If there is anyone in Ireland that has any information on Paul Barberel we would urge them to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.  Calls can be anonymous and will remain confidential."
