Irish Open: George Clooney snap sets tongues wagging

By John Porter

Despite Rory's nightmare round on day one of the tournament, one man was the talk of the town all day yesterday - George Clooney.

A picture of the movie star counting his change outside the local post office caused a stir far beyond the seaside town.

Ciara Crawley, on a school outing with children from St Mary's Primary, Mullaghbawn, was determined to get up close and personal with the Ocean's 11 star when she heard of his supposed appearance in the town.

"We are only here for the day - but I'm staying until I see George," she said.

The Belfast Telegraph searched high and low for the movie idol and can reveal the picture is of the ER star. However, he has been photoshopped into an old picture of the Newcastle shop.

Postmaster John Thompson said the image had got people talking. "It's all people want to know: is it Clooney? The shop has ever so slightly changed over the past year, so that's how you know it's not recent but it's clever."

He added: "There has been a great buzz and there is sure to be a lot of big names about the place. But its the town that is the real star."
