Irish Open to stay in Ulster: Ballyliffin will host in 2018

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, which brought so many of the world's best golfers and legions of fans to Portstewart this week, is set to return to Ulster next year.

A formal announcement was made on Sunday morning that Ballyliffin Golf Club in Donegal will host the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Ballyliffin hosted the Irish Seniors Open as part of the European Seniors Tour in 2008.

Tourism NI Director of Events and Business Support, Aine Kearney said Dubai Duty Free Irish Open is the perfect opportunity to showcase the region’s world-class golf courses to golfing audiences around the world.

"The potential of golf tourism is huge with the average golf visitor spending over £1,700 per trip,” she said.
