Isle of Man TT rider Dan Kneen died 'doing thing that he loved'
A biker who crashed and died while racing for a Northern Ireland team at the Isle of Man TT was killed doing "what he loved", an inquest heard yesterday.
Dan Kneen (30) "died instantly" after his machine hit a tree and burst into flames after a wheel "broke away", the Coroner's Court in Douglas, the island's capital, was told.
The crash occurred near Churchtown on the TT course during Superbike qualifying on May 30 last year.
At the time the 30-year-old was racing for the Tyco BMW team.
Witnesses said Mr Kneen, from Onchan on the island, was "off the racing line" before his bike crashed.
Recording a verdict of death by misadventure, coroner John Needham said it was "not entirely conclusive why the front wheel of Dan's bike broke away".
Thanking those who tried to save Mr Kneen's life, the coroner said he "died instantly… engaged in what he loved to do".
