Belfast boxer Carl Frampton has been awarded an honorary degree by Queen's University in Belfast.

The Jackal became a Doctor of the University (DUni) for distinction in sport at a ceremony on Saturday.

Frampton, who is due to return to the ring next month, previously held world titles in two weight divisions.

The Tigers Bay fighter defeated Roque Santa Cruz in July 2016 to win the World Boxing Association super-featherweight title, which he lost to the same fighter in January the following year.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Frampton said: "This award means so much to me, and I am so pleased to be here to share in this day with so many other students graduating from the university."
