Jail bird: Parakeet flies into Belfast police station

An unusual visitor has ruffled a few feathers at Strandtown Police Station.

A bird, believed to be a parakeet, was found flying around an office in the cop shop on Wednesday.

But instead of hauling the yellow birdie before the beak, one of the officers has taken it under his wing.

"We believe it is used to being handled as it is very friendly and unafraid of people," said a PSNI spokesman.

It seems the fearless fowl came into the station through an open window.

It is described as yellow with black dots and a red cardinal cap - and anyone who owns the bird is asked to contact police at Strandtown on 0845 600 8000.
