Jake King's on crest of a wave as he secures world title
A Londonderry teenager proved to be king of the waves as he fought off all competitors to become the Surf Kayak World Champion.
Jake King (18), from Eglington, came out on top at the event which took place at Maroochydore beach in Queensland at the weekend.
Speaking after winning, Jake said: "To finally win my first world title feels amazing and words cannot describe how I am feeling at this moment in time."
The Surf Kayaking World Championship is an annual event, this year it took place from July 9-21.
Jake took part in the men's international class, in which he competed against people from all over the world, beating the previous world champion Edu Etxeberria, from the Basque country.
Derry mayor Martin Reilly said he would be making contact with Jake to formally extend his congratulations on behalf of the people of the city on his magnificent achievement in Australia.
