There was joy at a Belfast nail salon among customers and manicurists alike as the doors reopened following lockdown.

Safety measures including temperature checks and screens have been installed at Hollywood Nails in the city centre, as well as the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The reopening came as hairdressers, barbers, beauty salons and tattooists in Northern Ireland received the green light with safety measures in place.

It was a hive of activity on Monday afternoon as a row of women extended their hands through a hole in the screens for nail extensions and manicures.

Paige Hegarty, who works from home, said she had been looking forward to getting out to get her nails done.

“It was a nice treat, it really lifts your mood and the girls here are so lovely, it’s nice to get socialising again too,” she told the PA news agency.

“It’s been such a nice day, good to get out of the house.”

Manicurist Rebecca Clarke said it had felt great to get back to work.

“I’ve been missing it, being off for three months was difficult, trying to find something to do,” she said.

“I’ve really missed all the customers, being able to hear what they were doing each week, talking about their kids and families and hearing how everyone was. It was great to see them today.

“Doing their nails is such a great pick me up for people, and sometimes it is the only thing they get to do, just to get their nails done and it is nice to be a part of that.”
