Judge's deadline over gun ban case

A High Court judge has given a man whose firearms licence was revoked one month to provide reasons for why his identity should remain secret.

Mr Justice Weatherup said he will discharge an anonymity order granted in his favour unless he supplies up-to-date information that a real threat to his life exists.

The man, currently identified only as JR20, lost a legal challenge last year over a refusal by the Secretary of State to overturn a decision barring him from holding a gun licence.

Reasons for revoking his licence included a belief that he associated with a proscribed organisation and had links to criminal activity.
