Just champion as Valentine feels the love at Clogher Show

By Richard Halleron

It was a day of sunshine and showers for visitors to this year's Clogher Valley Show.

And everyone just loved the champion of champions - but not just because she was born on Valentine's Day.

Clogher is one of the few venues with a tradition of putting its various champions into the same ring as a grand finale to a long day of competition.

Normally, a pedigree animal will take the final honour.

However, this year saw a majestic cross-bred heifer owned by Keith Williamson from Benburb secure the champion accolade.

Born on February 14, 2016, and so named after the saint, Valentine beat off stiff competition to win the final event of the day.

"She is home bred," Keith said. "She has won nine commercial championships on the spin this year.

"This is her second champion of champions' victory, the first was at Omagh at the end of June."

He added: "Her show career is now at an end. The plan is to put Valentine out to grass and put her in calf. She has tremendous breeding potential."
