Just married: Wave of love for couple who got engaged on a beach

Karen and Patrick Linnig from Bangor are enjoying married life following the wedding day and honeymoon of their dreams.

Economist Karen (30) and Patrick (31), a commercial manager, met on September 16, 2011.

"I was waiting for a taxi and one of Patrick's friends said I had to meet him," Karen explained.

"We had our first date the following week and since then we have been inseparable."

The couple fell in love and were engaged a year after meeting, on September 16, 2012, while on holiday in Vilamoura, Portugal.

"He took me down to the beach and had little presents for me," Karen said.

"He had a little box (with an engagement ring) wrapped up and we had a bottle of Champagne on the beach."

Karen and Patrick were married on March 14 at St Michael's Church in Mulleek, Co Fermanagh.

"It was lovely," Karen said.

"I was about 45 minutes late. It was very relaxed."

The newlyweds hosted a reception after at Lough Eske Castle in Co Donegal.

Their first dance as husband and wife was to a Ronan Keating song This I Promise You.

"It was an amazing day," Karen said.

"Just the best day ever."

A honeymoon followed in Dubai and Thailand.

"Dubai was so luxurious and Thailand is so naturally beautiful," Karen said.

Now home in Bangor, married life is everything the new Mr and Mrs Linnig thought it would be.

"It's great," Karen said.

"Things haven't changed massively but it feels nicer. We are very happy.

"We want to say a big thank you to our friends and family for travelling down to spend the wedding with us and to Paul Moane, our photographer. He made everything easy and natural."
