Kevin Kearney death: Man held over body found in park lake

By David Whelan

Police investigating the murder of Kevin Kearney last night arrested a 42-year-old man in north Belfast.

Detectives are also questioning the arrested man about a separate gun attack on a police patrol in December.

The body of father-of-four Mr Kearney (46) was found in a lake in Alexandra Park in October, a day after he had been reported missing.

He had been shot while out walking his dogs and the alarm was raised when the animals returned home without him.

There have been several arrests since Mr Kearney's death, which was linked to dissident republicans, although no one has been charged with his murder.

In the gun attack on police, 10 shots from a Kalashnikov-type gun hit two PSNI cars which were towing digital signs in the Crumlin Road area.

The man has been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
