Kilcooley gets funding boost
Kilcooley Community Forum has been granted an additional one year’s funding from the Department for Social Development (DSD).
The funding covers the running costs of the forum and the salary costs of a community worker and an administrative assistant.
“The funding is for a period of 12 months with an option to extend once the outcome of a comprehensive spending review is known later this year,” a DSD spokeswoman said.
A spokesman for Kilcooley Community Forum said the funding had secured the future of staff as well as the “important” work carried out by the forum for the next 12 months.
North Down MLA Alex Easton, who has lobbied hard on Kilcooley’s behalf in recent years, said he was pleased with the announcement.
“I welcome this announcement after months of lobbying the Minister (Margaret Ritchie) as the MLA for North Down and a member of the Social Development Committee,” Mr Easton said.
“The funding they have received has been secured for at least one year but will last for hopefully up to three.”
Mr Easton said Kilcooley Community Forum was “a very worthwhile organisation” and that it had provided the residents of Kilcooley and constituted groups “with administration support and community development services to enhancing the quality of life for each individual”.
