Kilcooley 'tense' after stabbing

By Bob Malcolm

Police and members of the local community are holding meetings to "ease tensions" in Kilcooley after the stabbing of a man in his 20s.

Police received a report that around 4.20am on Sunday, September 29, several men had forced their way into a house in the area and stabbed the male occupant a number of times. The occupant was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Mark Gordon, of the Kilcooley Community Forum, said: "All I can say at the minute is that police and members of the community will be meeting to ease tensions in the area.

"A number of people will be meeting with the police today (October 2) to discuss the issue at Newtownards police station.

"There is a possibility that this could blow up into something worse and local community workers are trying to defuse the situation."

Local MLA Alex Easton said: "This is another horrific incident where a young man has been stabbed, this has to be condemned in the strongest possible terms and is barbaric; no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. I would wish the man a speedy recovery."

PSNI detectives in Bangor are appealing for anyone who has any information to contact them at Bangor CID on 0845 600 8000.
