Killers of schoolboy Thomas Devlin to appeal

Two men jailed for the murder of schoolboy Thomas Devlin have learned when their appeals against conviction will be held.

Senior judges have set aside three days from January 16 to hear the challenges mounted by Gary Taylor and Nigel Brown.

They are seeking to overturn guilty verdicts for what a judge described as a “horrifying and brutal attack upon utterly defenceless and harmless boys”.

Thomas (15) was stabbed to death and a friend injured in north Belfast in August 2005.

Taylor (24) of Mountcollyer Avenue, Belfast, was ordered to serve a minimum 30 years in prison.

Brown (27), from Whitewell Road in the city, was jailed for at least 22 years for his part in the killing.
