Killinchy 'gun incident': Man charged with firearms offences

Police have charged a 27-year-old man with a number of firearms offences following an incident in Killinchy, Co Down.

Shortly after 6pm on Wednesday police received a number of reports that a man, carrying a suspected firearm, was attempting to stop cars on the Comber Road.

Specially trained firearms officers responded and a man was arrested in the New Line Crescent area. A search of the area was conducted and a deactivated rifle and a number of other items were recovered.

The man is due to appear at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
