Knife pulled on driver in Belfast New Lodge hijacking

A knife was pulled on the driver of a car in a hijacking in the New Lodge area of Belfast.

It happened at around 11.30am on Thursday.

The male driver of a white Renault Clio car pulled into Donore Court. The hijacker jumped in the car and produced a knife.

Fearing for his safety the driver fell out of the car and ran away. He was unhurt but left very badly shaken police said.

Later a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including hijacking and possession of blade or point.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5555 111.
