Knife wielding burglar chased after breaking into Belfast house

A man armed with a knife broke into a house in south Belfast before being chased off by the occupants.

Police received the report of an aggravated burglary at a house in Haypark Avenue on Friday at around 6.50am.

A man armed with a knife gained entry to the property.

Whilst inside the house he was disturbed by the occupants who chased him away on foot along nearby streets in the direction of the Ormeau Road.

The man is described as around 6ft tall, aged 20 to 30 years old, average to well set build, white skin and a chubby full face.

He has short, very dark hair was was wearing thick-rimmed dark glasses, a blue casual jacket, light-coloured tracksuit bottoms and possibly white trainers.

He had a Belfast accent and was carrying a knife around six to eight inches long with a jagged edge.

A Huawei mobile phone was stolen which is described as black in colour with a cracked screen.

No injuries were reported.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan has appealed to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries to contact police in Musgrave Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 320 06/07/18.
