'Knifeman' and girl arrested following theft and attempted robbery in Antrim

Police investigating a series of incidents in Antrim have arrested a 21-year-old man.

Officers were called to Railway Street shortly before 1.30pm on Wednesday, following reports a man was in the area armed with a knife.

Following a search a man was detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, criminal damage and attempted robbery.

The assault relates to an incident which happened in the Donore Crescent area at about 7.10am where a man suffered facial injuries, while he was also detained in connection with the theft and criminal damage of alcohol from a lorry parked in the High Street at about midday.

The man will also be questioned in connection with an attempted robbery at a store in the High Street which happened at approximately 1.35pm.

A 16-year-old girl has also been arrested in connection with this incident after being detained in Riverside, Antrim.

The suspects have been taken into police custody and will be questioned by detectives.
