Lagan hunt for missing man

Searches are continuing in the River Lagan in central Belfast after a report of a man entering the freezing water.

Police and rescue services have been carrying out a major hunt of the river since mid-morning on Thursday.

The PSNI said: "Police responded to a report of concern for the safety of a man close to the Lagan Weir in Belfast around 10am on Thursday, March 1.

"Officers are currently carrying out a search of the area in conjunction with a number of agencies including Lagan Search & Rescue and HM Coastguard.

"There are no further details at this time."
