Lancaster bombers to swoop for the Portrush airshow

By Amanda Ferguson

The only two flying Lancaster bombers in the world have been secured to appear at the Air Waves Portrush event this autumn, it has been revealed.

Organisers of Coleraine Borough Council's air show this September described the addition to the line-up as a "major aviation coup" as this type of plane has not been on display in Northern Ireland since 2006.

Mayor of Coleraine George Duddy said the announcement is just the start of many more to come regarding Air Waves Portrush.

"The move to take the event to East Strand Portrush and move the display line of the aircraft to the eastern peninsula will provide us with a location much bigger than we have used in the past," Mr Duddy said.

"This event is all about supporting our local businesses, sourcing tourism opportunities and showcasing what the Borough of Coleraine has to offer. Air Waves Portrush is the council's jewel and we are counting down the days until we all see it shine against the backdrop of our coastline."
