Land and sea search continues in Enniskillen for missing Monghan man

By Chris Kilpatrick

A major search operation is continuing for a young man missing since last Wednesday.

Extensive searches of land and water are ongoing in Enniskillen for Kieran McAree (23) from Co Monaghan.

Kieran is described as 5ft 7in tall, with short, curly brown hair, and he wore glasses.

He may have been driving a Volkswagen Golf car before going missing. Police urged anybody with information to contact them.

PSNI Chief Inspector Brian Foster said: "Significant searches are continuing, and we appeal for anyone who can help to contact us.

"We are also appealing for anyone in the vicinity to check outbuildings and land." The alarm was raised at 5.30am on Wednesday after reports a man had entered water in the town.

The RNLI said it received a report of a missing person in the Henry Street area.

Two inshore lifeboats were launched along with a rescue water craft. They were joined by police, the Coastguard, Fire Service and Irish Coastguard helicopter rescue from Sligo.

Enniskillen businessman Terry McCartney, who saw the initial rescue efforts, said: "There was a sort of sadness that something had gone wrong but I hope we are wrong."

"The best possible outcome will be that it is just a false alarm and that he is found safe and well."
