Larne man comes out fighting for charities

A big-hearted Larne man has been hailed for raising thousands of pounds for two children's charities.

Rab Mitchell competed in a white collar boxing event at the Dunadry Hotel that raised £6,173.44.

Funds raised were handed to local charities Children's Heartbeat Trust and TinyLife.

The motivation behind this fundraising effort was Rab's niece Rosie McLaughlin and little Caitlyn Parker, the daughter of a family friend.

Both babies were born prematurely, with Rosie needing life-saving heart surgery, and the families were offered the support of both charities.

Sarah Quinlan, chief executive officer with Children's Heartbeat Trust, said: 'We are very thankful to Rab and to William Thompson, who runs Spartans Boxing Club in Ballyclare, for giving his time, expertise and premises to prepare for this fantastic event."

Rab said: "We raised a huge amount for the charities and I would like to thank everyone who contributed towards both these very worth causes."
