Larne man fined for tyre-dumping at bonfire site in north Belfast

A Larne man has been fined £400 for his role in off-loading used tyres at a bonfire site in north Belfast.

Gavin Anderson (36), of Loranville, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of "unauthorised waste activities".

A statement from the Department of the Environment said Anderson was the driver of a curtain-sided lorry which, on June 4, 2013, was observed parked beside a bonfire site located in the Mount Vernon estate.

A quantity of used tyres were seen being off-loaded from the lorry.

The court heard the driver's court appearance came about after an investigation by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty on one count under Article 4.1(a) and one count under Article 4.1(b) of the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997.

He was fined £200 on each count.
