A security alert at a Lurgan cemetery, linked to a drugs operation, has ended with an object recovered.

The operation was launched on Monday morning following community concerns about drug dealing in the surrounding area.

A suspicious object found and the bomb squad called in.

On Tuesday morning police said the operation has ended and the object taken away for further examination. They did not say what the object was.

Chief Inspector Barney O’Connor said: “I want to thank the community for their patience while a public safety operation was conducted, however,  when it comes to keeping people safe we take no chances.

"Enquiries are ongoing and I want to appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with any information, to contact police in Lurgan on 101, quoting reference number 712 17/06/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”

Chief Inspector O'Connor also urged people with any concerns or information about illegal drugs activity to contact police on 101.
