Lurgan homes evacuated in security alert

By Staff Reporter

A number of homes in Lurgan were evacuated yesterday morning after a suspicious object caused a security alert.

Police cordoned off an area of Allenhill Park while the object was examined.

It was later declared an elaborate hoax.

Upper Bann DUP Assembly candidate Carla Lockhart said the local community is being held to ransom.

Meanwhile, a power cut caused by an act of vandalism saw 2,500 homes in Lurgan left without electricity on Saturday evening.

The incident happened after a metal bar was thrown at an electricity pole just after 8pm. A spokeswoman for NIE Networks said power was restored to most customers by 11pm, while a small number remained out until 4am.
