Lurgan sex attack: Police issue appeal after woman attacked on Tannaghmore North Road

By David Young

Police have issued an appeal for information following a serious sexual assault in the Lurgan area last month.

The attack took place on a woman in a lay-by in the Tannaghmore North Road area of Lurgan on the evening of December 8.

The assailant was said to be aged between 30 and 40 years, more than 5ft5ins tall, with a beard, and spoke with a Lurgan accent. He was wearing a dark hoody and dark trousers.

Detective Inspector Lynne Knox appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact detectives.

Sinn Fein MLA Catherine Seeley also urged people to come forward to the police.

"Anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, should contact Detectives at the Rape Crime Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 452 03/01/17," she said. "We must ensure the attacker is taken off the streets and faces the full force of the law.

"Alternatively, people can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
