Police received a call reporting that money and cigarettes had been stolen from business premises on Main Street in Portgleonone at 5am yesterday.

A short time later a white Hyundai Classic car was seen travelling on the Lisnavenegh Road in Ballymena.

Police pursued and as the car made off along the M2 motorway, a quantity of cigarettes, believed to have been stolen, were thrown out.

Police later recovered them. At around 5.35am, the driver and a passenger abandoned the vehicle in Tamar Street, east Belfast before making off on foot.

One man was arrested by police and was yesterday assisting them with their inquiries.
