Machinery sabotaged at Quinn site in Co Cavan

By Staff Reporter

The Garda is investigating after seven vehicles at Quinn Industrial Holdings were damaged in an act of sabotage in Co Cavan over the weekend.

A spokesman for the company situated close to the Fermanagh border said preliminary indications were that unknown substances, clay and silt were added to the diesel engines and anti-syphon devices of large excavation and crushing vehicles at its Swanlinbar quarry.

The Garda confirmed it was investigating criminal damage to machinery at Tiercahen, Swanlinbar. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

"This was an act of sabotage," said a source.

It is the first incident to have occurred at the company once owned by discharged bankrupt Fermanagh businessman Sean Quinn for several months.

There had been several incidents in the Derrylin and Ballyconnell area including death threats, and signs warning executives such as Liam McCaffrey that they "face the gun". A pig's head was also left outside the home of a company executive.
