Madrid Street ‘a rat run’
The Roads Service has given the green light for traffic calming measures in the Madrid Street/ Bryson Street area.
The move was welcomed by Alliance councillor Maire Hendron who had written to the Service after residents voiced their concern that the streets were being used as a ‘rat run’ during rush hour.
Mrs Hendron said it was “excellent news”— but the funding is not yet available. “I had been contacted by several residents in the area who were concerned that motorists were using their streets as a short cut during the rush hour traffic,” she said.
“These are residential areas and are not designed to deal with heavy commuter traffic. There are a large number of families with young children in the area and I am glad that measures will be put in place to reduce the chances of an accident.
“Roads Service like all other Departments and agencies face reduced budgets but I would urge them to give this project priority.”
