Major emergency operation at Belfast Laganside after report 'vulnerable' person fell into water

By Jonathan Bell

Emergency services swooped on Belfast's Laganside after reports a vulnerable person had gone into the water on Tuesday evening.

An alert was sparked at around 6.30pm.

Police, the Fire Service, Coastguard and Lagan Search and Rescue were all scrambled to the scene close to the 'Big Fish' at the Lagan Lookout.

Police appealed for anyone who noticed anything unusual in the area to call 101.

A Fire Service spokeswoman said there had been no sightings and nothing was confirmed.

"Hopefully it's a wild goose chase," she told the Belfast Telegraph during the search operation.

By 10pm all had left the scene and there were no reports of anyone being found.
