Police are investigating after a man aged in his 20s died at a homeless shelter in Ballymena.

It happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday at the Henry Street property.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Simon Community NI are saddened to confirm the passing of a client at our Ballymena service.

"Due to confidentiality, we are unable to discuss individual cases but are working with authorities and the family to sensitively respond to the matter."

Police said a post mortem would take place to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile the charity said it requested the support of the emergency services in a second unrelated incident. That happened at around 4.30pm also on Saturday and one man was taken to Antrim Area Hospital.
