Man (28) who died in Castlewellan car crash named as Daryl Shaw

The 28-year-old man killed following a one vehicle crash in Co Down has been named.

He was Daryl Shaw from the Castlewellan area.

The crash happened in the early hours of Friday morning on the Newcastle Road.

The collision occurred at around 1.45am and the road remains closed with police diversions are in place.

Sinn Fein MLA Chris Hazzard said the community is in shock following the tragedy.

He said: "The death of this young man in a collision on the Newcastle Road in the early hours of this morning is a tragedy.

"It has shocked and saddened the local community.

"Any death on our roads is one death too many.

"I send my condolences to the family and friends of this young man at this sad and difficult time."

Police would ask anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.

This years 21 people have been killed on roads across Northern Ireland.
