Man (60) in stable condition after assault in Londonderry

The victim was found badly injured at 8am on Sunday in the Sperrin Park area of Londonderry

A 60-year-old man is in a stable condition following a serious assault in Londonderry.

Police have since arrested a 42 year old man.

Detective Sergeant Brian Reid commented: “The suspect was detained after a 60 year old man was found badly injured inside a property in Sperrin Park at around 8am this morning."

"The victim has since been taken to hospital where he is understood to be in a very serious condition this afternoon. We would like to hear from anyone with information regarding this crime or anyone who can assist the investigation in any way."

A spokesperson for the Western Health and Social Care Trust said the man was in Altnagelvin hospital and was in a stable condition.
