Man, 72, attacked by home intruder

A 72-year-old man sustained a suspected broken ankle after being attacked in his home by an intruder.

The pensioner also suffered cuts to his face in the assault in Newtownabbey.

He returned to his Doagh Road home around 5.40pm on Saturday to find an unknown man in his house.

The attacker was described as being in his 30s, approximately 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall, was wearing a camouflage green hooded top, dark blue jeans and a baseball cap with a yellow peak.

A man matching the description was seen walking countrywards on the Doagh Road shortly before the incident carrying a blue plastic bag containing alcohol.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information or anyone who may have seen this man on the Doagh Road around this time to come forward.
