Man accused of Coleraine murder in bid for bail

By Staff Reporter

A window cleaner accused of murdering a Coleraine man is set to apply for bail after becoming a grandfather.

Richard Dalzell is charged with murdering 54-year-old Mark Lamont in Coleraine last year.

Dalzell (36), of Whinpark Road, Newtownards, is currently in custody, and appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video-link yesterday.

A prosecutor said a file in the case has been allocated to a senior prosecutor and is currently under consideration.

She asked for the case to be adjourned for four weeks, but a defence lawyer said he wanted to apply for bail next week as Dalzell's teenage daughter had given birth on Sunday to a baby boy, meaning "the family dynamic is changing somewhat".

The case was adjourned until next week.

Mr Lamont, a father-of-three, died on October 11 following an incident at Ballycastle Road the month before.
