Man accused of murder in prison after breach of bail

By Nevin Farrell

A man accused of murder who breached his bail conditions last week - sparking a police manhunt - is now behind bars.

Richard Dalzell, (36), a window cleaner of Whinpark Road, Newtownards, is charged with murdering 54-year-old Mark Lamont in Coleraine last September.

Dalzell had previously been released on bail. He appeared at Coleraine Magistrates' Court yesterday via video link from Maghaberry Prison.

A defence lawyer said there had been a breach of bail but Dalzell had "handed himself back into custody" last week.

A prosecutor said the file in the alleged murder case is still under consideration and she asked for a further adjournment.

She added that because of the breach of bail, the prosecution was applying for a £2,000 cash surety for Dalzell to be handed over.

District Judge Liam McNally said the matter can be looked at during a future court hearing.

Dalzell was remanded in custody to appear again in July.
