Man accused of threatening to kill his pregnant girlfriend
A man threatened to kill his pregnant lover unless she dropped charges that he subjected her to a serious assault, the High Court heard.
Prosecutors also claimed Richard McClung pushed her over onto stairs as she tried to get away from his home near Dungannon.
McClung (27) of Moygashel Court, Moygashel, faces charges of threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, intimidation of a witness, harassment and criminal damage. He was granted bail but banned from contacting his girlfriend.
The court heard police found the woman, who is from England, without any money at the Europa Bus Centre in Belfast on August 11. A prosecution lawyer said she is up to 20 years older than McClung, severely bi-polar and thought to be pregnant with his child.
Having arrived in Northern Ireland a week earlier, she claimed the accused tried to get her to go to police and withdraw allegations about a separate assault in England.
Mr Justice Weatherup was told McClung had been drinking Buckfast and Guinness and told her she wasn't going anywhere until the charges were dropped, allegedly adding: "I will f****** kill you, you f****** tout."
The prosecutor claimed: "At the bottom of stairs he pushed her and she fell backwards, landing on steps."
McClung denies all assault allegations.
