Man accused over Belfast shop hold-ups

By Chris McCullough

A man will appear in court today charged in connection with two shop robberies.

One store was targeted in Castle Street in Belfast city centre on Saturday morning, while an attempted robbery took place at a shop on Kennedy Way in west Belfast later that evening.

Yesterday police said they had charged a 30-year-old in connection with the incidents.

He has been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and attempted theft and is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today.

On Saturday morning two males, one armed with a knife, stole a sum of money from the shop in Castle Street.

At around 5.25pm that evening two males, one armed with a knife, entered the shop on Kennedy Way and demanded money from staff but made off empty-handed.

Police responded and one suspect was arrested a short time later on nearby Andersonstown Road.
