Man admits to stealing charity box
A Ballymoney man has pleaded guilty to stealing a charity box containing cash for a Robert Dunlop memorial fund.
Samuel James Leighton (31) also admitted stealing a till containing £100, items of jewellery and a mobile phone from the Gift Boutique in Ballymoney.
Leighton, from Henry Street, broke into the shop on August 8.
The shop’s owners had the charity box in the store to help the Dunlop family raise money to build a memorial sculpture of Robert, who died in 2008 after a crash during practice for the North West 200.
After pleading guilty to burglary and theft at Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday, Leighton was remanded on his own bail to reappear before the court for sentencing at the end of the month.
