Man airlifted to hospital after falling from golf course cliff

A man has been airlifted to safety after falling from a cliff at a golf course in Co Down.

The man ended up on rocks at Ardglass Golf Club, a links course which hugs the coastline.

Paramedics requested the coastguard's support and he was taken by helicopter to hospital in Belfast.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: "We were alerted by the ambulance service to a gentleman who fell from the cliff at Ardglass golf course.

"They wanted assistance to get him from the base of the cliff."

The coastguard received the appeal for help at around 2.20pm.

Teams from Newcastle, Kilkeel and Portaferry answered the call, as well as the Portaferry inshore lifeboat.
