Man and woman arrested over £15k heroin seizure

Two people have been arrested by police from Belfast following the seizure of £15,000 worth of heroin just outside of Belfast that was set to be sold in Belfast.

A 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested after a car was stopped just outside of Newry on Wednesday evening.

Speaking about the arrests, chief inspector Kelly Moore said: "This proactive operation is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of incredibly harmful drugs and substances coming into Belfast, and keep people safe."

Both the man and woman remain in custody and are assisting police with their enquiries. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting the reference 23/08/2017 or alternatively they can anonymously contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
