A man and a woman have escaped injured after shots were fired at a house in Craigavon.

The incident happened in the Parkmore area of the town at around 1.45am on Thursday.

It is understood one bullet struck a window pane of the house and a further two struck a car parked outside.

No one was injured. Two people, a woman and a man, were inside the house at the time.

DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley said: “This is an irresponsible act, carried out with complete disregard for life or the welfare of the local community.

"It beggars belief that so shortly after the death of Lyra McKee, caused by the careless firing of rounds in a crowd, that we have someone firing shots towards a house and a car in a residential area in broad daylight.

"I would say very clearly to those responsible that regardless which banner they claim to act under, what cause they claim or who they were targeting there is no justification for this action. The people of Craigavon do not want guns on the streets.

"I would appeal to anyone with information on the shooting to contact the PSNI, before someone loses their life.”

Chief Inspector Jon Burrows described the incident as despicable.

He said: “Did you see any suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of Parkmore in the early hours of this morning?  Do you have any information that could assist detectives with their enquiries?

"If so, please contact detectives at Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 64 09/05/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
