Man and woman found dead in house

A man and a woman have been found dead in a house in Belfast, police said.

Officers are at the scene in the Ravenhill area in the south east of the city.

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people in south east Belfast.

"Following a report from members of the public, police attended a house in the Ravenhill area about 2.45pm and discovered the bodies of a man and woman inside."

The property has been cordoned off as examinations take place.

It is understood detectives at this stage do not believe the deaths are terrorist-related.

Officers do however consider the property to be a potential crime scene.

South Belfast Assembly member Alex Maskey said he was shocked.

"No matter what the circumstances it is very tragic that two people have been found dead," said the Sinn Fein representative.

"We wait with anxiety for the full information around this.

"My condolences and sympathies go to the and family and friends of those who have died."
