A man armed with a hammer robbed a shop in east Belfast on Sunday morning.

At around 9.30 am the man entered the premises on the Belmont Road where he threatened staff and demanded money.

He made off with a small sum of cash.

Detective Sergeant Sean Armstrong said: “After the robber fled the premises we believe he got onto a bike and headed off in the direction of the Strand Cinema."

He is described as being about 20-years-old, around 5’ 10” tall and  wearing a black tracksuit with a black cap.

Police wish to hear from anyone who spotted a male matching this description in the area or anyone with any other information that might assist the investigation.
