Man armed with knife attempted robbery of north Belfast shop

Detectives are appealing for information after a man armed with a knife demanded money from a north Belfast shop during an attempted robbery.

It happened on the New Lodge Road, Belfast on Friday.

Police said at around 9.15pm a man armed with a knife entered the store demanding money from the till. He was forced to flee empty-handed after being challenged by a member of staff.

Detective Sergeant Kenneth Leckey said: "The would-be robber is described as around 6ft in height and of large build. He was wearing dark clothing with a scarf across his face.”

Tennent Street CID are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and who saw the male involved or anyone with any other information that could assist the investigation.
